Samsung's Spinpoint F4 320GB launched - apparently runs fast, quiet and saves energy
If you are planning to churn out that dream gaming/multimedia rig, then its time to check out Samsung's latest 3.5-inch spinner, the SpinPoint F4. The latest F-series drive reportedly features a 7,200 RPM platter rotation and 8MB/16MB buffer memory in capacities of 320GB & upwards. Although, the detailed performance specs aren't yet revealed, the SATA 3Gbps F4 purportedly has a single head design with fewer mechanical parts (for quieter operation). Thereby it is rated to deliver a 10% increase in read/write performance over its twin brother - Samsung's Spinpoint F1 while consuming 7% less power. That means you are offered higher performance and energy efficiency gains. However, that does not serve the purpose for comparison against other manufacturers' drives at this time. Irrespective of the constraints, it's said to be already on its way to OEMs and retail stores right now.
