iWork, aplikasi produktivitas umum di iPad, akan mendapat saingan dari perusahaan raksasa yaitu google.Google mengumumkan bahwa Google Documents untuk Android dan iPad dengan fasilitas mobile editing akan tersedia dalam beberapa pekan ke depan.

Pengumuman yang dilakukan oleh Dave Girouard, Google Enterprise President pada blog resminya itu menandai sejumlah tonggak penting pada Google Aps. Sebagai informasi, per Senin lalu, sebanyak 30 juta pengguna dari 3 juta institusi bisnis telah beralih ke platform Google Apps.

Kemampuan editing Google Docs pada perangkat Android dan juga iPad pertamakali dipamerkan pada ajang cloud computing Google Atmosphere, di Paris, Senin lalu.

Di Inggris, iPad Cuma Dibanderol Rp2,7 Juta

Ini dia yang bikin orang indonesia ngiler di inggris iPad cuma dihargai Rp2,7 Juta.Dua operator raksasa di Inggris, yakni Orange dan T-Mobile, mengumumkan tarif baru untuk produk bundel iPad sebagai upaya mereka untuk menarik pelanggan dengan memangkas biaya di muka.

Baik Orange maupun T-Mobile menawarkan Apple iPad 3G Wi-Fi 16GB dengan banderol harga 199 poundsterling, atau setara Rp2,7 juta, per unit pada pelanggan lamanya.

Harga ini memang terdengar cukup murah. Tapi, sebetulnya pelanggan juga akan dipungut 25 poundsterling, setara Rp350 ribu, per bulan selama dua tahun ke depan. Jadi, pada bulan ke 24, pelanggan merogoh kocek total sebesar 799 poundsterling atau sekitar Rp11,1 juta. Ini tidak terlalu mahal karena setiap bulan pelanggan berhak menikmati layanan Internet unlimited sebesar 1GB.

Khusus pelanggan Orange akan mendapatkan akses Wi-Fi tak terbatas via BT Openzone, tetapi tetap ada fair use policy (FUP) di mana kuotanya dibatasi sampai 3GB saja.

Bagaimana dengan pelanggan baru?
Mereka tetap bisa membeli dengan paket bundling. Tetapi, bagi pelanggan baru akan ditetapkan harga yang berbeda, yaitu 199 poundsterling di depan dan 27 pounds (Rp380 ribu) per bulan sepanjang dua tahun.

Bahkan, pelanggan Orange juga ditawari iPad versi 32GB dengan harga 249 poundsterling dan 349 poundsterling untuk versi 64GB.

Kompetisi antar operator untuk menarik pelanggan ini secara otomatis membuat posisi iPad semakin mantap di Inggris dan makin membuat kompetitornya seperti Samsung Galaxy Tab dan ViewSonic ViewPad 7 ketar-ketir.

Google Earth launches new version, improves clarity

Google Earth has just released Google Earth 6 into its interactive digital atlas. Now you can explore your childhood home, or scope out your next vacation spot with superior realism. Google Earth 6 brings superior realism in two ways. It integrates Street View and 3D trees for the first time. It’s also easier to browse through historical images as well. Google Earth has traditionally only allowed users to fly over spaces to view the landscape and surrounding features. With the overview of a full integrated street view, you can journey from East to West in a fully integrated street view experience, no flying over necessary.



Google Earth 6 also includes dozens of beautifully detailed 3D models of different types of trees, from the Japanese Maple to the East African Cordia. Trees are being virtually “planted” in Google Earth, with more than 80 million already placed in many popular destinations. To enjoy these leafy additions to Google Earth, make sure you turn on the 3D buildings layer on the left side panel.



The latest version of Google Earth makes it much easier to discover historical imagery. When you are searching in an area where historical imagery is available, the date of the oldest imagery will appear in the status bar at the bottom of the screen. If you click on this date, you’ll be taken back in time to view imagery from that time period. From there, you can search through all the historical imagery available at that location, or simply close the time control and return to the default view.

Sharp revealing Galapagos tablets in Japan December 10

Sharp is releasing its Android OS based Galapagos tablets in Japan on December 10 and is still thinking about taking the devices to international markets.



Sharp has announced it will be launching two Android OS based Galapagos e-reader tablets in Japan (Japanese) on December 10, one with a 5.5-inch color touchscreen display and the other has 10.8-inch color touchscreen display. Primarily billed as e-reader and media tablets that can handle Japanese-formatted newspapers, magazines, and books with ease (thanks to support for Sharp’s XMDF format), the Galapagos tablets won’t be cheap, with starting prices at ¥39,800 and ¥54,800, respectively, or about US$475 and $650. Those price points place them well above competing Android tablets, devices like the Sony Reader and Amazon Kindle, and even entry versions of Apple’s iPad.

Sharp is positioning the Galapagos tablets as media and e-reading devices backed by a group of more than 20,000 Japanese publishers _that means the Galapagos ecosystem will have access to Japanese _language content that isn’t available for competing platforms like the Amazon Kindle or Apple’s own i-Bookstore. Sharp also expects to add music and video offerings to the Galapagos service in 2011, which will help the platform compete shoulder-to-shoulder with other devices already offering those services. However, as Android tablets, the Galapagos devices have shortcomings: users won’t be able to connect to the Android Market to download and install applications.



Sharp recently left the PC business to focus on its Galapagos offerings. Sharp says it is still considering how to launch the Galapagos tablets in international markets like the United States; however, the company is reportedly in talks to bring Galapagos-branded 3D-capable smartphones to the United States. The Galapagos tablets might be a tough sell in the United States, where publishers have already lined up with the likes of Amazon, Apple, Kobo, and Barnes & Noble in a highly competitive ereader market, and the technological advantages of Sharp’s XMDF platform may not translate to a competitive advantage.

Micromax Entered in Android Family, With Andro A60

Micromax Entered in Android Family, India’s third largest mobile phone company micromax is all set to reveal its first ever Android phone called ^ Andro A60and comes equipped with the latest Google Android 2.1 Eclair update, as per the Micromax Delhi Bloggers Meet. The Micromax Andro A60 smartphone is a touch-screen phone that comes with a 2.8-inch screen and a 600MHz CPU. It has dual-band GSM support, and is believed to available with up to 7.2Mbps speeds via HSUPA, in addition to Wi-Fi. Some other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera, and 150 MB internal memory. It is expected to be available in India in December 2010. The price tag is likely to be below Rs. 8000, but the official price is yet to be revealed.

Making it’s entry into the Android smartphone market, this smartphone makes a reasonably priced offer to consumers interested in a Micromax smartphone with the Android OS.

COD: Black Ops - Single Player PC Review

Setelah ditunggu cukup lama, akhirnya pihak Activision telah merilis seri terbaru dari salah satu game FPS andalan mereka, yaitu Call of Duty: Black Ops. Seri ini akan ditangani oleh pihak Treyarch Studios. Selama ini, game-game Call of Duty buatan Treyarch, terkesan kalah pamor dengan seri Modern Warfare yang dikembangkan oleh Infinity Wards. Namun bagaimana dengan Black Ops ini? Apakah kali ini pihak Treyarch dapat kembali memberikan sesuatu yang istimewa bagi gamers?

Storyline

Treyarch mengambil setting waktu yang cukup unik dalam Call of Duty: Black Ops ini, dimana pihak pengembang tidak menyuguhkan setting World War II, seperti game-game buatan mereka dahulu, namun juga tidak menyuguhkan medan perang modern ala Infinity Ward, melainkan kita akan dibawa ke dalam era perang dingin di tahun 1960an. Dalam game ini kita akan sering kali bertemu dengan tokoh-tokoh besar yang ada dalam dunia nyata.

Kisah dalam Black Ops ini dimulai dengan adegan ketika salah seorang prajurit bernama Alex Mnson ditangkap oleh kelompok misterius. Alex, karakter yang akan kita perankan sepanjang permainan ini, sepertinya menyimpan sebuah rahasia yang ingin dimiliki oleh kelompok tersebut. Oleh karena itu mereka berusaha menyiksa Alex sekaligus menyelediki masa lalunya. Dengan berbagai teknologi serta obat-obatan yang mereka miliki, mereka berhasil memaksa Alex untuk kembali mengingat kembali masa lalunya ketika sedang menjalankan tugas.

Ketika kita sedang bermain, kita mungkin akan berperan sebagai beberapa orang karakter yang berbeda, namun kisah dalam Black Ops ini tetap terfokus kepada Alex Mason serta semua ingatan-ingatannya. Melalui ingatan-ingatan tersebut, kita akan dibawa ke dalam beberapa tempat, mulai dari Cuba, Rusia, Laos hingga Vietnam. Dimana Black Ops ini, pihak pengembang akan mempertemukan kita dengan beberapa karakter, seperti Fidel Castro hingga salah satu Presiden Amerika yang paling terkenal, yaitu John F. Kennedy.

Seperti yang telah ditulis sebelumnya, salah satu perbedaan yang ditawarkan oleh Treyarch dalam Black Ops ini adalah, mereka menceritakan storyline dalam game ini dari sudut pandang seorang Alex Mason. Jadi pihak pengembang tampak benar-benar menonjolkan karakter tersebut. Berbeda dengan seri-seri sebelumnya, dimana karakter yang kita mainkan jarang sekali memiliki dialog, dalam Black Ops ini, kita akan sering mendengar dialog antara Alex dengan karakter-karater lainnya. Tidak hanya itu, disini kita juga akan sering melihat bagaimana wajah dari karakter yang kita mainkan.

Karena diceritakan dari sudut pandang seorang Alex Mason, maka disini kita dapat melihat bagiamana detailnya hubungan-hubungan antara para karakter, seperti hubungan antara Mason dengan Woods dan Bowman, partnernya saat sedang menjalankan misi, atau hubungannya dengan Viktor Reznov yang memberikan intrik tersendiri, hingga penyebab serta bagaimana kebencian Mason terhadap Dragovich.

Tanpa memberikan spoiler mengenai storyline, plot utama dari Black Ops ini adalah kisah dari Alex Mason yang memburu Nikita Dragovich, untuk membalaskan dendam pribadinya, sekaligus untuk menghentikan rencana Dragovich. Sepanjang misi-misi yang dijalaninya tersebut, Alex rupanya juga menemukan dan menyimpan sebuah rahasia penting, dan rahasia itulah yang saat ini diburu oleh kelompok-kelompok tertentu.

Pihak Treyarch sepertinya berhasil membangun sebuah kisah yang cukup solid dalam Call Of Duty: Black Ops ini. Sepanjang permainan kita akan diperlihatkan dengan berbagai intrik serta adegan-adegan yang cukup memukau dari kepingan-kepingan ingatan Alex Manson. Dan untungnya, kepingan-kepingan tersebut berhasil disatukan oleh pihak pengembang untuk menghasilkan sebuah ending yang cukup baik, walaupun mungkin sebagian dari kita sudah dapat menebak bagaimana ending dari game ini.

Karakter utama dalam Black Ops ini merupakan bagian dari sebuah group yang bernama Studies and Observation (SOG), dimana dia merupakan salah satu anggota dari pasukan khusus dalam "Operation 40" pada tahun 1961, yang bertugas untuk membunuh Fidel Castro.

Frank Woods

Salah seorang sahabat karib Alex Mason ini merupakan karakter yang sangat setia kawan, dan sedikit emosional. Karakter yang berpangkat Sersan ini tampak sering sekali menyelamatkan nyawa Mason.

Joseph Bowman

Karakter ini merupakan tangan kanan andalan Mason, dan hampir selalu ada dalam setiap misi yang dimainkan oleh Alex Mason. Wajah dari karakter ini dibuat berdasarkan rapper Ice Cube, yang juga mengisi suara Bowman.

Nikita Dragovich

Salah satu musuh utama dalam Black Ops. Karakter ini digambarkan sangat sadis dan tidak berperasaan. Dragovich terkenal sangat suka menyiksa tawanan yang ditangkapnya, bahkan Alex Mason sendiri pernah merasakan kekejaman Dragovich.

Power Problems found Nokia N8

A small percentage of users have reported charging and booting problems with the Nokia N8. Nokia has responded on its blog.

It’s not a fun day for Nokia. In a blog post, the phone manufacturer has self-proclaimed that a “very small number” of itsN8 smartphones experience a bug that prevents them from turning on and off properly or charging correctly. The defective phones are not limited to any one region, so customers all over the world could experience this issue.



Niklas Savander, Nokia’s executive vice president, responded to the problem in a video on the blog. “We have traced it [the problem] down to the way we assemble the engines. We have, as a precautionary measure, have taken instant action across the product line,” he said. ”If a consumer feels their device is affected by this, immediately contact a customer care center. This is covered by the standard warranty.”



The Nokia N8 began shipping in September. The device is Nokia’s first strong attempt at competing with Android and iPhone. It has a 12 megapixel camera, 3.5-inch touchscreen, an HDMI slot, 16 GB of internal storage, and runs Symbian v3 OS.



We have not yet experienced this issue on our Nokia N8 at Digital Trends, but will report if such a problem crops up. Nokia claims that no other phones should be affected by this booting problem.

Google Cloud Connect takes place on Microsoft Office

Google has launched Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office, allowing Office users to back up and sync their docs, spreadsheets, and slideshows on Google's cloud network.



Yesterday, Google took its another shot at Microsoft Office. In a blog post, the search company revealed Google Cloud Connect, an add-on to Microsoft Office 2003, 2007, and 2010 that allows users to automatically upload and sync their documents as Google Docs in the cloud, allowing access from any computer with an Internet connection. “Once in the Google cloud, documents can be easily shared and even simultaneously edited by multiple people, from right within Office,” writes Shan Sinha, group project manager for Cloud Connect. “A full revision history is kept as the files are edited, and users can revert to earlier versions in one click. These are all features that Google Docs users already enjoy today, and now we’re bringing them to Microsoft Office.”



Within a few hours, Google filled its early testing spots as thousands of businesses signed up. When it is released, Cloud Connect will be a huge hit at Microsoft, who opened up APIs to its Office suite a couple years ago under the promise of greater openness. Google is using those APIs to create a product that teaches users how to live without Office by moving to Google Docs. Microsoft has not issued a response.



The technology for Cloud Connect comes from DocVerse, a company Google acquired earlier this year. In the last year, Microsoft has made a concerted effort to make its Office products more cloud-based (meaning stored on the web and accessible from anywhere). In October, it announced a huge deal with the city of New York and in July it made its Office 2010 web-apps free for anyone to use. Google appears to still have the upper hand on cloud-services, but 2011 is another year.



Google Cloud Connect is not currently available for Macs.

Nokia presents two new entry-level phones: C2-01 and X2-01

Nokia launched two new entry-level cell phones will come to India the next few months, both are S-40 platform.



The Nokia C2-01 will become the Finnish phone maker’s cheapest 3G phone at 70 euros (Rs. 4,300) when it releases in Q1 2011. The Nokia X2-01 doesn’t have 3G, but has a full sized QWERTY keyboard to attract messaging fiends, and will release in December priced at 80 euros (Rs. 4,900).

Wonder how the devices will do in the Indian market, where numerous local brands have been competing with each other, bringing out both inexpensive 3G phones and innumerable QWERTY handsets on a weekly basis.
