Assen Circuit Netherlands
The circuit, which is situated south of Groningen in north Holland, has been slightly reduced to 5.997kms or 3.745 miles. For many riders the track and its unique banked curves is the ultimate challenge. Even though there are no long straights the average speed for a lap is still the fastest of all racing circuits.
An important factor at the Dutch circuit is the weather. A high percentage of recent races have been rain-affected. One advantage at this circuit, however, is that it has good levels of grip, even in wet conditions, and the marked camber on the track stops puddles being formed.
The circuit has a capacity of over 61,000 seats and more than 100,000 standing places. For the safety of all competitors, the circuit is monitored by a closed TV-circuit with the pictures projected on a video-wall in race control. 25 posts along the track secure competitors' safety.
Beating Shinya Nakano into second place, Nicky Hayden took the second victory of his MotoGP career and Honda's 200th win. His Repsol Honda team-mate, Dani Pedrosa, finished on the podium too after taking third place. Hayden battled for the win until finish with Yamaha's Colin Edwards, who couldn't resist Hayden's attacks and fell as he exited from the last turn.
The nearest international airport is Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, 125 miles from the circuit. Driving from Amsterdam, take the A28 heading towards North Groningen, but exit at junction 32 (Assen-Zuid). The track is located just over a mile south west of Assen, just west of the A28 Motorway (Exit 32) from Amersfoort to Groningen. There is also a train service from Amsterdam, stopping at the airport, to Assen.
