Samsung drops Froyo on Galaxy S phones

Samsung has released Updates of open-source Android 2.2 Operating System specifies official, carrier-supported versions of Froyo should be available soon.

Whether you know it as the Fascinate, Epic 4G, Vibrant or Captivate, Samsung’s Galaxy S is finally ready for an update to Android 2.2, also known as Froyo. Or at least, it is if you have the technical slices.

Samsung’s Open Source Release Center released the source code for the update on Wednesday, meaning techy-savvy Android users can grab the update immediately, and publically sanctioned versions tweaked by carriers should be on the way shortly. A search for GT-I9000 should turn it up at the release center, but Samfirmware mirrors a copy as well (free registration required).
