Consumer electronics companies are hurriedly embracing 3D technology, and Fujifilm is no exception, today announcing its FinePix Real 3D W3 compact camera that, like its predecessor, can take 3D still photos, but can also shoot high-definition 720p 3D video. The camera packs two 10 megapixel sensors—one for left, one for right—and also sports a mini HDMI 1.4 port for displaying 3D imagery on 3D-compatible televisions.
The FinePix Real 3D W3 produced 3D images and videos using a pair of 10 megapixel CCD sensors spaced 75mm apart to mimic the depth perception of human eyes; the camera synchronizes exposures to create composition 3D images that have a natural sense of space and depth. Of course, the camera can also shoot conventional 2D images—advanced 2D shooting modes enable the camera to shoot extra-wide panoramas, two-color simultaneous shots, as well as dual-sensitivity shots—say, one image with blur reduction and the other with higher imagequality.
The camera sports 3× optical zoom, a 3.5-inch LCD display, a “super intelligent” flash, and anti-blur technologies, along with automatic scene recognition, face detection (2D only), USB 2.0 connectivity, and SD/SDHC removable storage.
Fujifilm says the FinePix Real 3D W3 should be available in early September for a suggested retail price of $499.95
