Nikon's new 14.1 megapixel Coolpix S1100pj sports a 14-lumen projector that can throw images almost 8 feet to the size of a 47-inch TV.
Nikon has debuted two new Coolpix cameras, including the 12.1 megapixel Coolpix S5100 with improved low-light shooting and the 14.1 megapixel Coolpix S1100pj. The Coolpix S1100pj is a followup to last year’s S1000pj, which was the first digital camera with a built-in projector; the new edition increased the projector’s brightness from 10 lumens to 14 lumens, and can also be hooked up to a computer via USB to project computer data on convenient nearby walls and surfaces. The projector can throw images about 240cm (just under 8 feet) at sizes up to the equivalent of a 47-inch display.
The Coolpix S1100pj also sports a 3-inch LCD touchscreen display, a 5× optical zoom, face-priority autofocus and the ability to record high-definition 720p movie. The camera also boasts a number of fun features, including a an animated character that can interact with a face detected via autofocus in time to selected background music—we imagine that’s loads of laughs over the projector. The camera packs about 79 MB of built-in memory and handles SD/SDHC/SDXC removable storage. Nikon says the Coolpix S1100pj will be available in September in four body colors for a suggested price of $349.95.
Nikon has also announced its 12.2 megapixel Coolpix S5100, which is designed to be able to take quality images with low levels of noise even in dim lighting conditions. The S5100 rolls in motion detection, vibration-reduction, and flash-control technology introduced in higher-end Coolpix cameras, plus a new feature that enables the camera to distinguish between handheld and mounted shooting so it can automatically adjust its settings to how it’s being used. The camera features ISO sensitivity down to 3200 (in manual mode), a 5× optical zoom, high-definition 720p video recording, fast startup and shooting times, and a 2.6-inch LCD display. The S5100 should be available in October in four body colors at a suggested price of $179.95.
